"A PLAN that could send 300,000 tonnes of rubbish a year from London boroughs including Hillingdon to Cheshire for burning has sparked outrage.
"The West London Waste Authority (WLWA) has put out to tender a contract to treat waste, which cannot be recycled, from its member boroughs: Hillingdon, Ealing, Harrow, Brent, Hounslow and Richmond.
"One of the bids is a joint venture between Tata Chemicals Europe and E.ON Energy, under which an incinerator about the size of Wembley Stadium would be built close to the town of Northwich."

Thank you for mentioning the fight that the community of Northwich, population about 40,000, is putting up against the two huge multinational business corporations, TATA and E-ON who want to build a garbage burner in their town.
ReplyDeleteTo get an idea of the scale of the monster just imagine something burning 68,000 kilos (150,000 lbs) of rubbish, including human sanitary waste, EVERY HOUR non stop 365 days a year.
With respect, your report is incorrect in one important aspect. The incinerator would be located IN the town of Northwich not close to it, as you state. In fact, it would be within 700 metres of four local schools with a total of 1000 pupils! Our local Tesco would be about one kilometre away.
All this, potentially, to enable Londoners to send their garbage 200 miles up the country because they are not willing or too lazy or too irresponsible to deal it themselves.
It there is anything that your readers can do to persuade the WLWA not to go ahead with this crazy and dangerous madness, on behalf of our community, particularly the children whose health would be endangered, I would ask them to please do it.
Thanks
