Friends of the Earth: "Make It Better"

Link to Friends of the Earth
"The Make It Better campaign is all about improving the way that our products are made.

"We should all think about the impact the things we buy have on the world. But it should be up to the companies that make them to ensure they don't hurt people and the environment.

"With Make It Better we're calling for tough new rules to make companies come clean about the full impact of their production. This would be a huge step towards reducing the dangerous strain being placed upon our planet.

"We also want to celebrate the positive steps companies are taking, and how innovative design can reduce the environmental impact of our favourite items.

"We'd love you to join in, starting with one of today's most popular products: the smartphone. ..."

Does anybody in West London care that the WLWA is seriously considering giving a contract to TATA that would mean transporting their garbage 200 miles up the country to Northwich in Cheshire for incineration? It appears that they do not.

I admit a vested interest in this because I happen to live in Northwich and, along with the majority of the population here, I sincerely believe Londoners should take responsibility for dealing with their own crap and not inflict it on our town. In case anybody is offended, 'crap' is technically the right term to use in this instance. That is because a large portion of the rubbish sent would consist of sanitary waste ie soiled nappies and incontinence pads, doggy poop filled bags which would be loaded into large HGVs and hauled up the motorway network to our part of Cheshire. Accompanied, particularly in Summer, by large swarms of flies.

There are a range of good environmental and health hazard reasons why it would be unfair and plain crazy to force Northwich to take Londoners' garbage. Have a look at the CHAIN campaign website which is:
    anti-incinerator.org.uk for more information.

In summary, the message from Northwich to West London waste creators is DEAL WITH YOUR OWN RUBBISH, WE DON"T WANT IT!
